Smithsonian American Art Museum Chinese New Year Family Festival 2019

On Saturday, February 2, the Smithsonian American Art Museum will celebrate the 2019 Chinese Lunar New Year.  Chinese folk artists and performers will provide a variety of activities and demonstrations such as traditional paper cutting, an art scavenger hunt, red paper lantern making, and panda crafts. Performers will "awakened the lion" and ring in the year of the pig with traditional performances including folk music, Sichuan Opera, and acrobatics. This year features artists from the province of Guangdong performing acrobatics, traditional dance and music, and their local opera. Meet Guangdong craftsmen and see their handiwork, create your own new year’s crafts, and go on a scavenger hunt. Enjoy delicious treats available for purchase at the Courtyard Café. The GW Confucius Institute with student volunteers will perform Chinese calligraphy demonstrations - inscribing the guests' name or a new year's phrase on a couplet or new year's lantern.

Many thanks to our cultural partners, the Department of Culture and Tourism of Guangdong Province and the Administration of Culture, Radio, Film, Television, Press and Publication of Guangzhou Municipality.
