The GW Confucius Institute is pleased to partner with Nanjing University Library to hold this virtual lecture by Dean Zhangcan CHENG on "Nanjing: The Capital of Literature and its Literary Traditions (南京:文学之都与文学传统)", which focuses on how literature from Nanjing contributed to China and the world, as well as discusses Nanjing's literary traditions and its impact on urban development. 

This event will be held in Chinese, and is free and open to the public.

Speaker Biography

Professor Cheng Zhangcan has a PhD in Literature and is the Professor of Literature at Nanjing University, Director of the Institute of Chinese Classics of Nanjing University and Dean of the Library of Nanjing University. His main research focuses are ancient Chinese literature, classical philology, Jiangsu and Nanjing local culture, etc. He wrote the "Three Books of Nanjing" (“南京三书”), namely Homeland Surrounded by Mountains《山围故国》, Chaos Attacking Stone City《潮打石城》, and Old Swallows: Legend of the Capital of Literature《旧时燕:文学之都的传奇》.
