Job Description:

The GW Confucius Institute will be hiring student tutors to offer one-on-one instruction for Chinese language for the 2018-2019 academic year. Tutors will work one-on-one with Chinese language learners to improve their reading, writing, speaking and listening skills. The focus of this class is to offer a language course specifically tailored to the Chinese language learner’s specific learning goals. Session frequency and duration vary based on learner needs.

As a native speaker of Mandarin, you will be offering the language learners an immersive learning environment through conducting conversation and other forms of language practice.

Minimum Qualifications

• Speaks Standard Mandarin Chinese Fluently & Able to Write Pinyin
• Undergraduate or graduate student currently enrolled at GW, preferably in the fields of education, linguistics or languages

Desired Qualifications & Qualities:

• Previous experience tutoring or teaching Chinese to non-native speakers
• Completed coursework in the fields of languages, linguistics or education
• Must work professionally and communicate effectively
• Must be enthusiastic, friendly and patient with learners to create an encouraging learning environment
• Must have good interpersonal skills and the ability to work with language learners from diverse educational, cultural and social backgrounds.


General Duties:

• With assistance from your supervising instructor, create an overall Teaching Plan for the student based on his/her specific learning goals and needs
• Develop lesson plans and prepare teaching materials for each session
• Create an immersive learning environment through instruction by conducting conversation and other forms of language practice with student
• Maintain accurate session logs and complete session reviews for each class
