GW CI offers three paid positions: private instruction pro-tutor, private instruction tutor and student communications assistant. Applications for private instruction pro-tutor and tutor positions are accepted on a rolling basis. Opportunities for student communication assistants typically open up at the beginning of the fall and spring semesters.

Job Description:

The GW Confucius Institute offers customized, one-on-one Chinese language instruction for individual learners. We are hiring Professional Tutors to work one-on-one with various Chinese language learners to improve their reading, writing, speaking and listening skills. The Professional Tutors that we are looking for should be a native speaker of Mandarin, with a master’s degree and some professional language teaching experience.

The Professional Tutor will offer the language learners an immersive learning environment through conducting conversation and other forms of practice. The goal of the class is to meet the each learner’s specific learning objectives. Session frequency and duration vary.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Ability to Speak Standard Mandarin Chinese Fluently
• Masters Degree in Related Field: Education, Teaching Chinese as Second Language, Linguistics, etc
• Availability to Work Nights and Weekends
• Eligibility to Work in the US

Desired Qualifications & Qualities:

• Previous Experience Tutoring or Teaching Chinese to Non-Native Speakers
• Ability to Work Professionally and to Communicate Effectively
• Ability to Be Enthusiastic, Friendly and Patient with Learners to Create an Encouraging Learning Environment
• Good Interpersonal Skills and the Ability to Work with Students from Diverse Educational, Cultural and Social Backgrounds.
• Current or Previous Graduate Student at GW

Job Description

The GW Confucius Institute is hiring Student Communications Assistants, who will play a central role in assisting GW CI with online outreach, events programming, special projects management and administrative tasks.

The student will provide basic support with print, web, social media, and/or other digital content and assist with events planning and execution. Tasks may include: posting and updating website pages and social media accounts; create written communications and/or newsletters, assist with graphic and/or video editing, acting as event MC, planning event logistics, and more. Special projects or other duties may be assigned related to specific departmental/faculty needs.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Current status as GW undergraduate or graduate students
• Availability to Work Nights and Weekends (occasionally)
• Eligibility to Work in the US

Desired Qualifications & Qualities:

• Ability to work professionally and to communicate effectively
• Team player and enthusiastic learner
• Administrative and/or communications experience
• Interest in Chinese language and culture
• Some knowledge of Chinese language
