Chinese Philosophy through Calligraphy | Calligraphy Exhibition of China Classics Presented by Ye Hua-Zhou

Exhibition Description

Chinese calligraphy is one of the most recognizable staples of Chinese artistic culture, with a history that spans thousands of years. A stylized version of artistic character writing, calligraphy grew from pictographs found on tortoise shells into a diverse art form. Different styles of calligraphy have emerged as dynasties have risen and fallen, each with their own characteristics, embellishments, and masters. Poetry and classics are often the subjects scribed in calligraphy works, where the words on paper have greater underlying means that are then bolstered by the beautiful form in which they are written.

This exhibition is made possible through the partnership of the Confucius Institute U.S. Center, the Confucius Institute at George Washington University, the China International Cultural Exchange Center, and the Huai’an Municipal People’s Government of Jiangsu Province.
