Instruction will be in both English and Chinese. Although no placement test is required, this class is best suited for students who have completed course levels Beginner Chinese 101 or Beginner Chinese 102.

*This textbook is not available for purchase from the GW Confucius Institute. Supplementary materials and tools will be distributed in class. Students are encouraged to purchase the necessary tools including paper, ink, inkstone and brushes to practice at home.

Course Description: 

This class is an Introduction level course including the basic explanation of the common sense of Chinese Character and Calligraphy and the appreciation of the great works from famous calligraphers throughout history. In addition, students will have opportunity to experience and to practice writing with traditional brush with the instructor. By the end of the the course, students will have basic character knowledge for further study of Chinese reading and writing. Also, as a final project, students will come up with a complete work all by themselves.
