The Power of the Pen: Arabic Calligraphy from East to West

Friday, April 21, 2017 - 1:00pm to 3:00pm

Three master calligraphers representing nearly a century of collective experience in the arts took attendees on a journey of Islamic Calligraphy. These artists hailed from across the globe (i.e., United States, Europe, and China), each having obtained an ijaza or official diploma certifying they have been trained and can now teach and work in same manner of the great calligraphic masters whose work graces mosques, palaces and museums. Calligraphy is often viewed as the most elevated form of art because it transforms the sacred word into masterpieces which inspire awe and introspection. These three artists represent different stages in their careers but all have been carefully trained by masters who trace their lineage centuries back. Join us for a rare experience to delve into the beauty of this classical art form through live demonstration and discussion with these masters.
