2017 Mid-Autumn Festival Celebration

On Wednesday, October 4, 2017, the GW Confucius Institute held the 2017 Mid-Autumn Festival in the GW Confucius Institute townhouse. Guests tasted the traditional holiday food, the famous mooncakes, and networked with others who are interested in China and other Asian cultures. There will be materials available for you to hear about learning Chinese language and study abroad opportunities in Asia.

Lecture: Finding the World’s Most Interesting Dinosaur

The Gobi Desert of China has produced some of the most important dinosaur discoveries in recent years, and one of the most successful series of expeditions to this area was led by Dr. James M. Clark, along with his colleague Dr. Xu Xing of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. On September 13, The George Washington University Confucius Institute and the Department of Biology co-hosted a presentation by Dr. Clark entitled, “Finding the World’s Most Interesting Dinosaur.” Dr. Clark presented how their expeditions unearthed fascinating new dinosaurs, including the bizarre Limusaurus inextricabilis that was trapped in a “death pit.” The was the GW Confucius Institute’s first time partnering with the Department of Biology.

On June 27, 2017 the GW Confucius Institute collaborated with the DC Public School system for their summer school educational program for ESL students at the Columbia Heights Educational Campus. Our very own Yang Yanyan Laoshi gave a presentation on the traditional art of paper cutting and the Chinese zodiac, teaching the students the different years, animals and meanings.
