On June 27, 2017 the GW Confucius Institute collaborated with the DC Public School system for their summer school educational program for ESL students at the Columbia Heights Educational Campus. Our very own Yang Yanyan Laoshi gave a presentation on the traditional art of paper cutting and the Chinese zodiac, teaching the students the different years, animals and meanings.

Harmony and Peace in Calligraphy

On Tuesday, June 13, 2017, The GW Confucius Institute will invite Professor ZHOU Bin, Director of China Calligraphy Education & Psychology Research Center, to present during this interactive lecture and workshop on Chinese calligraphy. The topic of the lecture is: Harmony and Peace in Calligraphy. This two-part event will include a 30 minute lecture, followed by 20-30 minutes for a demonstartion and audience participation.

Carlos Rosario International Public Charter School Asian Spring Festival

On May 26, 2017, the GW Confucius Institute provided a Chinese calligraphy demonstration at the annual Asian Spring Festival at the Carlos Rosario International Public Charter School, which provides education that prepares the diverse adult immigrant population of Washington, DC. Every year, the Asian Spring Festival includes student performances and activities. At the end of the event, it has been a tradition to have a chinese calligraphy demonstration. The GW Confucius Institute was glad for the opportunity to join this year's event.

2017 Summer Tour of China

For the purpose of promoting the learning of Chinese language and culture, the George Washington University Confucius institute sponsored a group of students from the GW Confucius Institute as well as students from the university to take a tour in China from May 24 to June 7. The tour visited historically and culturally significant locations in Nanjing, Beijing and Xi'An. During the trip, participants had the opportunity to experience many aspects of culture firsthand.

HSK & HSKK Testing

Saturday, May 20, 2017 - 9:00am to 4:30pm

The HSK & HSKK are Chinese proficiency tests, which will make you eligible for scholarships, fellowships and summer camps offered through the Confucius Institute. It is also required when direct enrolling into Chinese universities. The GW Confucius Institute will offer 3 paper & pencil HSK and HSKK test dates this spring.

Third Symposium on Teaching Chinese as a Second Language

On Sunday, May 7, 2017 The George Washington University in collaboration with the Nanjing University Institute for International Students hosted our Third Annual Symposium on Teaching Chinese Language and Culture in the Era of All-Media. This year's theme was on Teaching Chinese Language and Culture in the Era of All-Media. Guest speakers from around the world came to the symposium to speak on different issues related to using technology in the Chinese classroom.
