Vice Premier Liu Yandong Visits GWU

Wednesday, November 20th, 2013, Vice Premier of China Liu Yandong visited the George Washington Confucius Institute and met with GW President Steven Knapp. During their visit, the delegation toured the GW Confucius Institute, which was established earlier this year. After the tour, the Vice Premier attended a brief welcoming ceremony at the Colonials Club in the Smith Center. As a show of support, The Vice Premier offered a donation of 1,000 books, 10 scholarships for students to study in China and 30 scholarships for faculty & students to attend the Chinese Language Bridge during the summer. The delegation from China included:the Chinese Ambassador to the United States, Cui Tiankai, the Executive Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs, Zhang Yesui, the Minister of Education, Yuan Guiren, and Madam Xu Lin, the Director-General of Hanban. 



江苏杯大学生中文演讲比赛 2013 Jiangsu Cup Chinese Speech Contest

The 3rd Annual Jiangsu Cup Speech Contest was co-sponsored by the GW East Asian Languages & Literatures Department, GW Confucius Institute, Nanjing University - Institute for International Students,  Jiangsu International Exchange Center and Jiangsu Foreign Cultural Exchanges Association. 16 students competed for scholarships to study abroad in China.

Vice Minister Hao Ping Visits GWU

Vice Minister Hao Ping of the Ministry of Education of China and his delegation met with GW President Steven Knapp, Dean of the Columbian College Ben Vinson III, and Director of Global Initiatives and Managing Director of the GW Confucius Institute Taoran Sun to discuss the potential for future collaborations. During their visit, the delegation also toured the GW Confucius Institute, which was established earlier this year. The delegation from the Ministry of Education of China included: Director-General Zhang Xiuqin, Counselor Han Tao, First Secretary Zhou Hui, Deputy Division Director Tang Zhiwen, Senior Program Officer Yang Hao, Counselor Sun Jin, First Secretary Liu Jiangyi, Second Secretary Sun Fengshou, and Second Secretary Bu Huanfang.
